Launched in 2004, Al Arabiya is one of the most highly watched channels in the Arab world, and is recognised as a principle competitor with Al Jazeera for the title of the premier Arabic-language TV channel. Broadcasting from its base in the gulf state of Qatar, its programming offers a diverse range of entertainment, news, and sports features with a wide appeal to a general audience. A particular favourite program with viewers is Special Mission, launched in October 2013, which tackles in issue of international importance on a weekly basis, and is regarded as the channel’s flagship program of international renown. The channel also features news and documentaries concerning the worlds of business, economics, politics, and more, with regular debates and documentaries on diverse topics, with the program Edaat offering an in-depth, hour long interview with a different prestigious guest each week.
