STS International (Cyrillic: CTC TV Channel Network) is a private television channel based in Moscow, Russia and is part of the CTC Media Group, which owns over 300 subsidiaries and 19 associated channels. STS was launched in 1994, and took the name of CTC in 1996. These days, it is one of Russia’s leading entertainment channels. In terms of audience, STS International ranks fourth among Russian networks. It broadcasts a wide range of national shows, as well as foreign programs targeted at viewers aged between 6 and 54 years. In that age range, the channel has achieved around 18% market share, and thanks to its originality and dynamism, STS is constantly growing its audience. Nowadays, over 100 million people are able to receive its signal, more than 87% of Russian urban households. In 2007, STS achieved an average audience share of 11.3%. It transmits its programs 24/7 and organises an annual musical competition entitled “STS Starlight”. Moreover, the channel broadcasts a number of TV series, movies, cartoons and entertainment programs, including: Are You Stronger Than a 10 Year-Old?; Good Jokes; Galileo; Thank God You Are There; Keeping Up With Grichkovets and Children’s Pranks. It also broadcasts many sitcoms and series, including The Nanny, Who Rules in This House?, Not Born Pretty (the Russian version of Ugly Betty) and Daddy’s Daughters. STS also has arrangements with many European and American film studios, allowing it to screen major international movies first in the Russian market.
