The Shant TV channel was launched in 1994 in Armenia. This is a private channel which broadcasts general programming. Even though the channel was born in a time of crisis for the country, it was created with a quirky tone and a little more lightness than others channels in order to attract viewers and spread some laughter and positivity. Shant TV accomplished their mission entirely, even though it took a few years to win the hearts of the Armenian public and become one of the largest channels in the country. At first it was only broadcast nationally, however, it is now available worldwide via satellite. Its programming schedule is eclectic, it includes shows, games, movies and entertainment programmes, therefore, the channel provides many programmes which are suitable for the entire family. The latest news bulletins are broadcast on Shant TV and current events are also covered. What allowed the channel to achieve its wonderful success is also the choice to broadcast foreign programmes, but especially to adapt some of the most popular ones for the Armenian audience. Therefore, on Shant TV you can find the Armenian versions of “X Factor”, “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” and “So You Think You Can Dance”. These programmes have been a major success among young people and have helped Shant TV to achieve great ratings. With its varied range of programming, much of which is suitable for the whole family, Shant TV is most certainly a solid Armenian channel.
