The tone of Al Magharibia is firmly based on political and ideological discourse. The channel was set up in 2011 by Osama Abbasi and a number of Arab intellectuals. Al Magharibia channel with its free speech ethos was launched as a reaction to the Arab Spring uprisings from 2010.
