RTV San Marino has been broadcasting since 1993. Originally limited in scope, in the year following its launch the channel adopted a newscast format. It currently airs programmes ten hours a day. Its evolution has been rapid, as has its growth in terms of popularity. The channel joined the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) in 1995, and achieved new levels of exposure when it participated in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2008.
Its programming is broad enough to appeal to a wide audience: news, fashion, entertainment and sports are all a regular part of its schedules. It also shows films and documentaries for the whole family. RTV San Marino also serves as a cultural portal to the country for visiting tourists, through programmes exploring current events and local history. Whether it be religious ceremonies, classical music concerts, folklore, theatre or the biannual Investiture Ceremony of the Captains Regent – the country’s two heads of state – the channel’s viewers can learn all about San Marino past and present.
Current affairs and social issues are well represented on RTV San Marino, with talk shows, debates and news bulletins as well as programmes on political and economic topics. Meanwhile, RTV San Marino also offers a magazine show for younger viewers fronted by a virtual presenter. Broadcast entirely in Italian and available free on satellite, RTV San Marino RTV allows viewers to follow all the latest news about San Marino and Italy.
